Our Commitment

The Florida Free Library is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. As a public library within the Town of Florida, Massachusetts, we are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the technical standard the U.S. Department of Justice requires for state and local government websites under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Under the DOJ's rule, and its 2026 deadline extension for smaller governmental entities, the formal compliance deadline for a library our size is April 26, 2028. We've built accessibility into this site now rather than waiting for that date.

What We've Built In

• A "skip to main content" link for keyboard and screen reader users
• Visible focus outlines on every link, button, and interactive element
• Semantic headings and landmark regions (navigation, main content, footer) for screen reader navigation
• Descriptive text alternatives for meaningful images; purely decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology
• Text and background color combinations checked against WCAG AA contrast minimums
• Animation and motion effects that turn off automatically when a visitor's device is set to reduce motion
• A responsive layout that works with browser zoom and screen magnification

Some content on this site — such as the embedded Google Maps location on our Contact page — is provided by a third party and is outside our direct control.
